The fact that David can manage to keep his threat level down and genuinely build bonds with the newbies could be invaluable down the road. Really surprised with how easy it seems to be for him.

level 2

Really phenomenal social game. It amazes me that Wendy feels comfortable talking about cutting returnees in front of him, that’s how low he made his threat level.

level 3

Yeah that was wild for me. I did a double take at the screen to make sure that was really David standing there. It either speaks to David's game or Wendy's total don't give a shit attitude.

Could be both.

Threat Level Midnight

I dont think in that moment she was talking about targetting returnees but rather Kelly and Lauren in particular... logically it just doesn't make sense that she'd talk about targeting the returnees in front of david regardless of how good his social game is unless she's really that dumb which i doubt she is

level 2

Me too I love watching his game

I think the fact that he has played once before instead of twice is helping him.

level 2

Is his social game that good, or does he just have zero 'threat' aspects?

He was one vote away from winning his season 10-0-0 and being one of the best winners of all time. He’s an amazing strategic and social player, and possibly the best fire-maker in the game. He has lots of threat aspects.

level 4

I just watched his season, how do we know he's one of the best fire makers?

Post-game content from MvGX and pre EoE content. Most agreed that he was would have beaten Adam and most others in fire during MvGX and from pre-EoE info, Allegedly he can make a fire with flint in less than a minute.

He has a tremendous social game.

Honestly question, can a teenager ever win the game? When you look at the examples, it's not pretty.

  • Keith and Jessica both went out second

  • NatTen was one of the biggest goats of all time.

  • Spencer Duhm was out premerge

  • Brandon Hantz speaks for himself

  • Michael Yerger and Will both made it to mid-merge, but honestly they weren't close to winning at all.

  • Julia Sokolowski was probably the best of the bunch, and that's not a very high bar.

I think a teenager could win, but man that's not an archetype I would ever bet money on.

level 2

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two who had the best game standing and chance of winning if they got to the end, Julia and Michael, lied about their age.

Also looked like they could be mid 20s.

level 3

They were also able to back it up, from what I remember Michael was the most mature, I wouldn't have guessed he wasn't old enough to drink.

I think a big factor is that you only have at most 1 teenager per season, if any. Statistically, that makes it harder. Same with older contestants in modern Survivor.

Adding on to that, they are usually lacking in maturity and life experiences. it makes it harder to mesh with the tribe. In the premerge especially, that can make them a potential target. I think Julia and Yerger were the best exceptions here, but they were still facing uphill battles to go further than they did.

level 2

Michael could have won but the Malolos we're just so unlucky he just didn't have the chance to get far

level 3

I agree, Michael could have an Ian type story had Malolo not been doomed from the start.

Malolos were shit at making bonds, yet Laurel and Donathan made one of the most successful cross tribal alliances in the show’s history

level 5

They're the only two that made a cross tribal alliance. And it only became a factor from the final 8 onwards.

Also, I wouldn't consider it one of the "most successful cross tribal alliances ever" for Laurel and Donathan, seeing as they both became goats by handing all the sway in the game to the two men with all the idols and advantages.

It was successful in the sense that Domenick and Wendell prioritized them over the rest of the Naviti tribe, it doesn’t have to result in a win for it minority for it to be successful. Of course it does helps when narrowing down the most successful one alliance which off the top of my head would be either Kathy Neleh Vecepia Sean and Paschal or Jalapao 3 plus Erinn, since both resulted in the minority tribe producing the winner. Laurel’s lack of willingness to flip is well documented but Donathan did try to make a move at least. Of course trying doesn’t crack the Marquesas or Tocantins domains of success, but it’s still top 5-10

I think it's either lack of confidence due to their age (like Keith and Spencer) or lack of a long-term gameplan (like Julia and Will). Julia may had some kind of a gameplan but she was too transparent playing both sides. And I blame it to her being young and spontaneous (I mean look at how Sarah did it).

I would add lack of life experience
