Being someone who stopped playing team sports competitively in junior high, I've got to ask; how can our team play with such lack luster effort vs teams that are considered lesser and weaker in almost every way when a playoff spot is on the line?

Is it more fun to be right all the time? Or go down in flames with the team I scream at the television for every other night??

Hard to say... I stopped shaving 10 days ago.

Can we stop pretending we’re a playoff team yet? How many more WE CAN STILL MAKE IT posts should I expect to see?

And, yes, I’m a negative Nancy.

If you can't beat a glorified AHL team with the league's worst road record, you don't deserve the playoffs.

It was interesting kind of in a laughable manner that we had a chance still but its even more pathetic knowing we couldn't put together a half-assed season in general to make the playoffs. It was gettable and they haven't deserved it all year.

I divide the season into four parts:

  • When Todd was fired they had 20 points in 19 games (86 point pace).

  • After Hitch was hired, and Klefbom was healthy, they had 19 points in 14 games (111 point pace).

  • With Oscar down, they had 12 points in 19 games (52 point pace).

  • Since Klefbom returned, they have 18 points in 18 games.

The first three of those are pretty predictable. Clearly, we have little depth on D, and losing Klefbom was a body blow to the team, but I am very disappointed with their performance since he came back. Especially with Sekera back, and no meaningful injuries to anybody.

Well, given your upvotes and my downvotes, I guess people do still think we're a playoff team.

To me, I'm disappointed in last nights game. We had a chance to really close up and we dropped the ball big time. Right now we have players who are playing amazing in McDavid and Drai. Players who are average; Nuge, Koski, Sekera, Kelf, kass, Cave, Chiasson, and Gagner. Finally, a bunch who are underperforming. Aside from Chiasson the depth players are really just skating around and not providing much. We tend to sit around and hope that McDavid and Drai win the game. We look surprised when they can't in tight checking games.

Yes NJ are below us but come on boys, you’ve still got to give it 100% against lesser teams. They better take the 2 easy points from the Coyotes and get a new streak going if they want to make the playoffs and bring the cup home.

It won't happen

I am so tired of nearly everyone on /r/hockey and /r/edmontonoilers

I don't care about people who shit on us every day, it's the inconsistency everywhere. We win a couple of games, "oh yeah we're fuckin 5 points out we can do it", but we lose one game it's back to the "we're the worst team of all time" and the fucking Oilers fans on /r/hockey who are like, "Hurr durr Oilers suck circlejerk give me karma, I got egg on my face and my pants are down because I "like" the Oilers.". Everyone shits on us when he lose one game and it's back to the "first overall" circlejerk, fucking hilarious, did you know that Chiarelli did this and that? We don't talk about this every single day or anything

it's just an old rhetoric for free karma. le Edmonton is bad. Like check this one out:

Like a Toronto fan tries to jump in later and talk shit... What's with that?

Edit: my formatting is shit on mobile, fuck it.

Being critical of the team isn't bad. Why does everyone have to run around being all butterflies and rainbows about the team? It's a shitty team and it isn't like it is just one bad season it has been 13 bad seasons with one anomaly. It is completely valid to be disappointed with this team.

And there is nothing wrong with making a joke about the current state of the team because the current state of the team is a joke. Don't get so offended over jokes. The Coyotes hold a playoff spot and their points leader has 44 points and there leading goal scorer has 15 goals. The Oilers have a 100 point scorer, another player with a potential 100 points who leads the team with 42 goals, and 4 players with 20+ goals.

You misunderstood the point of everything I said, great. I never said you can't make jokes/can't be disappointed, but the constant circlejerking of the same exact thing every single day for months gets incredibly old. I said, "I don't mind people shitting on the team, it's the inconsistency and the constant circlejerk"

We've been at a point for a month or so where we increasingly have to play perfect to make it. And then we get upset when the team screws up. The screw ups were November to mid February. What is required is not sustainable for almost any team outside the top 2.

We lost to jersey. We need to basically win out the season which we won’t do. No playoffs this year for us.

Bought tickets to the game last minute. Started off so good with the looch fight and good energy.... Then just fizzled. If the crowd could find a way to make it a playoff atmosphere in that building maybe that would give the team a boost down the stretch. One can dream.

How are you the Oilers and taking anyone lightly?

level 1

2 game winning streak followed by loss. After that they'll probably go 5-3-1

Surprisingly, I’m not mad. I didn’t expect the team to win out the final 13 games. They lost this one and now need to move on. Another loss or two and it’s over but anything is possible! In a way an angry loss may fuel them more.
