Let's chat Oilers, NFL, CFL, farming..anything; except the Dolphins. They suck, there is nothing else to say this year.
Thanks everyone. I looked and think I answered everyone. Have a great night.
Thanks for doing this and thanks for the great radio show!
What are your thoughts on Puljujarvi? Do you think he will play the whole year in the AHL? Has his english progressed much since the beginning of last year? How long do you think till he is a mainstay in the Oilers line up?
He needs to play faster and understand the system better. I suspect he will get some time in the NHL, but not right away. They won't rush him and unless someone is really struggling or injured I don't see a spot opening up right away.
Gregor, do you enjoy pineapple on pizza? Does it deserve a spot as a topping on pizza?
I grew up loving Hawaiian pizza, but I don't eat it much now, but I can still crush one if it is front of me. I'd take pineapple as a topping for sure.
Hey Gregor! Do you think Chia still will make some moves/trades for RW/D or will he stand pat?
He will during the season, I suspect, but not right away. He had a plan to give players an opportunity to show what they can do. I don't see why he'd change right away, but he did admit he will monitor his defence situation closely, with Sekera out, and if they struggle he could act sooner than he anticipated.
Thanks for taking your time to do this AMA. Who do you think will win the Calder trophy this year?
Good question. I will go with Keller or Charlie McAvoy.
What's your take on Jagr going to the Flames? (If true)
It is true. Adds some more sizzle to the BOA I hope. I think Jagr is a heck of a player, but how much does he have left? How will he handle the extra travel in the west? If he can score 45 points they should be thrilled. He is very determined, so I wouldn't count him out, but I don't think he puts the Flames over the top to win the division.
Thanks for the response! I agree I don't think Calgary is any more solid this year than they were last year. But only time will tell
I think they are miles improved simply by removing Wideman.
Feels like we exploited his play a couple of times for some nice highlight goals in the sweep last year.
Where do you see the Oilers finishing this year?
Also do you think we’ll make any free agent signings before Wednesday or shortly after the season starts?
Thanks for doing this!
I see Oilers battling for first in the Pacific. Ducks have injuries to Lindholm, Vatanen and Kesler to start the season and their reign atop the division could end. I say Oilers finish first with 106 points.
No free agents I see them interested in. Chiarelli told me today he hasn't had talks with Jarome Iginla at this point.
Hey Gregor, realistically do you see mcdavid and draisaitl leading us to multiple cups? I know they say our window is open so I dream of one soon (I only want one cup, that's not too much to ask right). But multiple cups comes with so much luck and out of nowhere supporting crew and good goal tending. Talbot is 30? How long does that keep the oil in the race.
Thanks for everything and I enjoy your show almost everyday. Tell struds he is a welcome addition.
I really enjoy working with Struds. He's a beauty.
Multiple Cups is hard, but when you have a great talent like McDavid history shows your odds of multiple championships are actually pretty decent. Orr won two, Gretzky won four, Lemieux two, Crosby three. Lindros was the only one not to, and injuries did play a role.
Talbot should have four quality seasons in him, but as we saw with Pittsburgh, the Oilers could find a young stud in the future. You are correct though, you need some lucky bounces and to be healthy in the playoffs.
Thanks very much to Jason for taking the time for this AMA.
What kind of season do you anticipate from Brossoit compared to last year?
Which Oiler are you personally the most excited about this season for any reason?
Is there anybody who comes to mind as always being a treat to interview and talk hockey (or other sports) with? Someone you really look forward to running into or working with?
He had four starts last year and I could see him up to 16-18 this year. Talbot starting 64-66 games would be fine. Brossoit is earning more trust from the coaches, and if he has a few solid starts early in the season McLellan will go to him a bit more often. However, I don't see him playing much in October, because the OIlers have a light schedule.
Ken Hitchcock is always good to talk to. He loves talking hockey and ha no problem answering any question. Also Derek Keenan, Rush head coach and GM. He is a great man and I really enjoy talking lacrosse and hockey with him. He's a huge sports fan.
Hello and thanks for doing this Mr. Gregor
After hearing your show live from the Sherwood Park Crusaders camp I 'm just curious if you have a prediction for the team that will be crowned AJHL champion this year.
On a personal note, I won a pair of tickets to the Oilers third last home game at Rexall Place from your show. I know you've given away plenty of tickets over the years but I just wanted to say thank you to you and the man who provided the tickets for giving me a chance to take my uncle, the man who took me to my first game when the arena was freshly minted Skyreach, to one last game in the old barn before the team moved to Rogers Place.
Thanks for the thank you. I'm glad we could send you to the game.
Okotoks has a really good team I hear. Brooks is always competitive, same as Spruce Grove, but I will take Whitecourt and Okotoks in the final. Wolverines to win.
My buddy is all about the Storm, thanks for a bit of coffee pot banter tomorrow morning. Let Strudwick know it's awesome he's back, love the chemistry the two of you have on the show!
Thanks...The Storm used to be a powerhouse. It would be good for them to get back to the top. Thanks for listening. It is fun bantering with Struds.
